Specter Releases Presidential Nominees’ Responses Regarding Stance on Processing Judicial Nominees
Washington, D.C.
Friday, April 18, 2008 -
U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, today released the attached copies of letters he received from Senators John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in response to his April 10, 2008 letter that inquired about their position on his proposed petition to discharge from the Judiciary Committee the pending nominations of Mr. Peter Keisler, nominee to the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Judge Robert Conrad, nominee to the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and Mr. Steve Matthews, nominee to the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Senator Specter has repeatedly expressed his concern that the Judiciary Committee is not promptly considering and processing judicial nominees. On the Senate floor he explained his disagreement with the idea that a Senator can delegate his or her constitutional duties to Committee Chairmen or Senate leadership.
